How I Read the Sacred Mirrors in a Chart
Your soul did not come here alone. It left a trail of mirrors in your birth chart: sensitive degrees that hold the memory of your truth, your lessons and your cosmic relationships.
When another person’s planets land on one of these degrees, or when a planet in the sky moves across it, the mirror lights up. You feel seen, stirred, called forward or pulled back into something old. That is not random. It is your chart recognizing a reflection.
Three Kinds of Mirrors
- Single points, like your Vertex, your Part of Fortune and your South Node.
- Midpoints, the exact halfway point between two placements, like Venus and Chiron. I measure the short way around the wheel and list that end first. Every midpoint is really an axis, and the point exactly opposite belongs to the same mirror. Either end can be activated, and neither is more important.
- Patterns, like a planet with no major aspects, a goddess asteroid on an angle, or a planet at 29° of a sign.
How Close Does Someone Need to Be?
- 0° to 1°: fate is knocking. The mirror lights up like a neon sign.
- 2° to 3°: a very strong activation, likely a contract or soul thread.
- 4° to 5°: only potent if it is the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Jupiter, or if there are several mirror hits.

- Positions: calculated with the Swiss Ephemeris, the same engine behind my free birth chart: tropical zodiac, geocentric, Placidus houses and the True Node. The South Node is exactly opposite the North Node, and the Part of Fortune uses the day or night formula by sect. Magdalena, Lilith (asteroid 1181), Isis, Sophia and Hekate come from NASA/JPL Horizons. Black Moon Lilith is the Mean Lilith.
- Midpoints: always the short way around the wheel, the same as midpoint #1 or #2 on other calculators, whichever sits between your two placements. Every midpoint mirror is an axis. The short-way end is listed first, and the other end, exactly opposite, is part of the same mirror. Neither end is more important, and either can be activated.
- Orbs: Venus and Mars within 2° for the Empowerment Mirror. Vesta within 3° of an angle or the Vertex. Goddess asteroids within 3° of the IC, Venus or the Vertex. Mars or Saturn within 3° of the IC. Planets within 2° of the Galactic Center, and within 1° of a major fixed star. Activations use the rule of thumb above.
- No birth time: your angles, houses, Vertex and Part of Fortune are left out, along with the mirrors built from them, and your Moon is calculated for noon, so the Inner Union Mirror is approximate.
- My methods: this calculator is based on my own research and the orb-based methodology I use in my practice. Other astrologers use different methods, and you are always welcome to use your own.
