Important note on degree rounding
Before we go any further, this matters more than most people realize. When determining bound lords, degrees are rounded up. If a planet is at 11°01′, it is treated as 12°. If a planet is at 11°48′, it is also treated as 12°. Minutes do not keep you in the earlier degree. This single rule changes rulerships for countless charts and is often where interpretations quietly go wrong.
What Are Egyptian Bound Lords?
Bound lords, also called terms, divide each zodiac sign into unequal sections ruled by planets. These divisions come from the Egyptian tradition and were later preserved by Hellenistic astrologers. Unlike sign rulers, which describe the broad archetype, bound lords describe the conditions under which a planet must operate.
Think of the sign as the country, the house as the terrain, and the bound lord as the local authority setting the rules. A planet in the same sign can behave very differently depending on which bound it falls into. This is where temperament, lived experience, and karmic tone begin to sharpen.

Moon 11°48′ Cancer
Rounded to 12°. This is a critical shift.
This Moon is not reactive in a Martian way. It is relational, receptive, and guided by harmony. Emotional safety is found through love, beauty, and emotional attunement rather than defense.
Sun 17°48′ Cancer
Rounded to 18°. This places the Sun firmly in the Mercury bound.
