Method & Assumptions

• Day chart: the Sun was above the horizon — your birth time falls between sunrise and sunset that day.
• Night chart: the Sun was below the horizon — your birth time falls before sunrise or after sunset.
• Threshold chart: your birth time falls within about four minutes of sunrise or sunset — traditionally called a chart “on the horizon,” where the Sun sat close enough to the edge that both day and night reasonably lay claim to you.
• Sun on the Ascendant or Sun on the Descendant: two further, separate kinds of threshold — when the Sun sits within about 8° of your exact Ascendant or Descendant degree. “By Birth Place” mode checks for both automatically, using your birth date, time, and coordinates to calculate the chart angles. Because these angles move roughly one degree every four minutes, this check is only as accurate as the birth time you enter — if yours is a rough estimate, take the result as a general read rather than an exact one.
• “By Birth Place” calculates your local sunrise and sunset using your birth date, coordinates, and time zone — including historical daylight saving rules for that location. “I Know My Sunrise/Sunset” uses whatever local clock times you enter directly, with no conversion.
