You didn’t imagine it.
Something shifted. The job that used to fit feels too small. A relationship feels different. You’re suddenly tired of things you used to tolerate, and pulled toward things you can’t quite name yet….
When life starts feeling different all at once, there’s almost always a reason written in the sky. Not one reason. Usually several, all ticking at the same time.
Astrologers have four main timing clocks for seasons like this: transits, eclipses, progressions and your profection year. Each one measures time differently. Each one tells you something the others can’t. And when two or three of them point to the same part of your chart at once, that’s when everything seems to change.
Clock One: Transits
Transits are the planets moving through the sky right now, and the conversations they strike up with the planets in your birth chart.
The fast planets, like the Moon and Mercury, move through your chart in days and weeks. They set the mood. The slow planets, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, are the ones that rearrange your life. When one of them touches your Sun, your Moon, your chart ruler or one of your angles, it can stay for a year or longer.
A few transits are so well known they have their own names. Your Saturn return, around ages 29 and 58, asks you to grow up and build a life that’s actually yours. Your Uranus opposition, usually somewhere around 40 to 42, shakes loose whatever you’ve outgrown. You can find the dates for both with the free Saturn Return Calculator and Uranus Opposition Calculator.
The outer planets are also in the middle of big sign changes. Neptune and Saturn have both moved into Aries, Uranus has moved into Gemini and Pluto is settling into Aquarius. When the slow planets change signs, they start touching new parts of everyone’s chart, which is part of why so many people feel a shift right now.
Clock Two: Eclipses
Eclipses are the wild cards. They happen in pairs and in seasons, about every six months, and they move along one axis of the zodiac (two opposite signs) for roughly a year and a half before shifting to the next.
That’s why an eclipse story rarely resolves in a day. It unfolds over 12 to 18 months on the same axis of your chart, opening a door in one area of life and closing one in the opposite area.
The tighter an eclipse falls to one of your planets or angles, the stronger you feel it. I consider a tight orb the epicenter. A wider orb can still be felt, just not as hard. For more on how eclipses move you forward, read The Eclipse Isn’t Blocking You. It’s Aiming You. And because eclipses come in families, the Saros Series Eclipse Guide shows you how a current eclipse can echo one from years before.
Clock Three: Secondary Progressions
Transits come at you from the outside. Progressions describe how you’re changing on the inside.
Secondary progressions use a simple, ancient-feeling rule: each day after your birth stands for one year of your life. The sky on the 30th day after you were born describes the inner climate of your 30th year.
The progressed Moon is the clock most people feel. It changes sign about every two and a half years and comes back to where it started about every 27 to 28 years. When it changes sign or crosses an angle, your emotional needs change with it, sometimes before you can explain why.
The progressed Sun moves much more slowly, about one sign every 30 years. When it changes sign, it often marks a turning point in identity: the moment you start becoming a different version of yourself.
Clock Four: Your Profection Year
Profections are one of the oldest timing techniques in astrology, and one of the simplest.
At birth, you begin in your 1st house. Every birthday, the year moves forward one house. After twelve years, it comes back around. The house you’re in for the year becomes its main topic, and the planet that rules the sign on that house becomes the lord of the year, the planet whose transits and condition matter most to you until your next birthday. Traditional astrologers use Whole Sign houses for this.
Find your current age below to see which house your year activates:
- 1st house (self, body, new beginnings): ages 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72
- 2nd house (money, values, resources): ages 1, 13, 25, 37, 49, 61, 73
- 3rd house (communication, siblings, learning): ages 2, 14, 26, 38, 50, 62, 74
- 4th house (home, family, roots): ages 3, 15, 27, 39, 51, 63, 75
- 5th house (creativity, children, joy): ages 4, 16, 28, 40, 52, 64, 76
- 6th house (work, health, daily routines): ages 5, 17, 29, 41, 53, 65, 77
- 7th house (partnership, marriage, contracts): ages 6, 18, 30, 42, 54, 66, 78
- 8th house (shared resources, transformation, endings): ages 7, 19, 31, 43, 55, 67, 79
- 9th house (travel, faith, higher learning): ages 8, 20, 32, 44, 56, 68, 80
- 10th house (career, reputation, public life): ages 9, 21, 33, 45, 57, 69, 81
- 11th house (friends, community, hopes): ages 10, 22, 34, 46, 58, 70, 82
- 12th house (rest, release, the unseen): ages 11, 23, 35, 47, 59, 71, 83
When the Clocks Line Up
One clock on its own rarely turns a life upside down. But when two or three point at the same place, you feel it.
Picture someone turning 30. Their profection year lands on the 7th house of partnership. Their Saturn return is happening at the same time. And an eclipse falls right on their Descendant. That’s three clocks, all pointing at relationships, all at once. Of course everything feels like it’s changing. It is.
That’s the question to ask in a season like this: not “what is one planet doing to me?” but “where are the clocks agreeing?”
How to Move Through a Season of Change
Lower octave: You fight the change, cling to what’s ending and read every shift as proof that something is going wrong.
Higher octave: You read the timing, cooperate with it, and let the season do what it came to do.
Change doesn’t mean you’ve done something wrong. Often it means you’ve finished something. The clocks are simply telling you that a chapter is closing, and showing you where the next one wants to open.

Final Thoughts
If everything feels like it’s changing right now, it probably is, and you’re not imagining it.
Transits show the planets moving through your chart from the outside. Eclipses open and close doors along one axis for a year and a half at a time. Progressions show how you’re changing on the inside. And your profection year shows which part of your life is in the spotlight until your next birthday. One clock rarely changes everything. When the clocks agree, they almost always do.
Not falling apart. Not falling behind. But moving into the next chapter, right on time.
Read the clocks. Trust the season. And let it carry you where you’re meant to go.
With Love and Light,
Tiff
