Scorpio Season and the Thinning Veil: Pluto, the 8th House and Your Rebirth Story

Have you noticed how the dreams get louder this time of year?

The light fades earlier. The leaves let go. People you’ve lost feel closer somehow, and old feelings you thought were buried rise to the surface without asking permission….

That’s Scorpio season. For centuries, people have felt the veil between worlds grow thin as the year descends into darkness. Astrologically, it’s the season of death and rebirth, and your chart shows exactly which part of you is ready to transform.

Scorpio Season: The Descent of the Year

The Sun moves through Scorpio from about October 23 to November 22. In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the stretch of autumn where life visibly withdraws: leaves fall, fields go bare, and the nights take over. Scorpio is the fixed water sign, ruled traditionally by Mars and in modern astrology by Pluto, and it governs everything we usually avoid talking about: death, sex, power, money we share, grief and the hidden.

Right in the middle of it falls Samhain on October 31, the old Celtic festival at the turning of the year, when the dead were honored and the boundary between worlds was believed to be thinnest. The modern Halloween grew out of it. Scorpio season is the astrological version of that same truth: before anything is reborn, something has to be released.

The 8th House: Where You Die and Are Reborn

Scorpio’s natural home in the chart is the 8th house: shared resources, debts and inheritances, intimacy, psychological depth, crisis and transformation. Look at the sign on your 8th house cusp, any planets inside it, and the planet that rules it.

  • Planets in the 8th house describe the parts of you that are forged in fire: tested, stripped down and rebuilt over a lifetime.
  • The sign on the 8th house describes how you meet loss, trust and intimacy.
  • The ruler of the 8th house shows where in your life your transformations play out.

Pluto by House: Your Rebirth Story

Pluto moves slowly, so its sign belongs to a generation. Its house is personal. That’s where your deepest death-and-rebirth cycles happen.

  • 1st house: you reinvent your identity more than once, and others feel your intensity.
  • 2nd house: rebirth through money, possessions and self-worth.
  • 3rd house: words with power, secrets in the family story, a mind that digs.
  • 4th house: family power dynamics and ancestral patterns you came to transform.
  • 5th house: intense loves, creative obsession and transformation through children or art.
  • 6th house: the body and daily work as places of crisis and healing.
  • 7th house: partnerships that change you completely.
  • 8th house: Pluto at home: deep psychological power and repeated rebirths.
  • 9th house: beliefs that die and are reborn, and a search for ultimate truth.
  • 10th house: public power, career reinventions and dealing with authority.
  • 11th house: groups and movements that transform you, and that you transform.
  • 12th house: hidden power, ancestral or past-life depth, and healing through solitude.

Right now Pluto is moving through Aquarius, so the collective is in its own rebirth around technology, community and power. Read more in Pluto’s Profound Impact on Your Life.

Why the Veil Feels Thin in Scorpio Season

Scorpio is a water sign, so it works through feeling, memory and instinct rather than logic. When the Sun moves through it, our attention turns inward and downward. Dreams get vivid. Grief that’s been waiting comes up. Intuition sharpens. If you work with ancestors, past lives or the unseen, this is the season when that work tends to come most easily.

And this year, Scorpio season arrives with both Venus and Mercury retrograde, so the past is especially close. Old loves, old conversations and old stories are all up for review. The Lower and Higher Octave of Scorpio Season

Lower octave: Obsession, control, jealousy, holding on to what’s already dead, or using secrets as power.

Higher octave: Courageous honesty, deep intimacy, letting go cleanly, and the kind of power that comes from having survived your own transformation.

A Scorpio Season Practice

  1. Find your 8th house and your natal Pluto, and note their signs and houses.
  2. Write down one version of yourself that’s ready to die: a role, a fear, a story you keep telling.
  3. On or near Samhain, honor it: thank it for what it carried, then burn or bury the page safely.
  4. Keep a dream journal through November. Scorpio season often answers in symbols.
  5. Name one person or ancestor you want to remember, and do one small thing in their honor.

Final Thoughts

Every rebirth begins with something being allowed to end.

Scorpio season, from about October 23 to November 22, is the descent of the year, with Samhain at its heart and the veil at its thinnest. Your 8th house shows where you’re forged in fire, Pluto’s house shows your deepest rebirth story, and this year Venus and Mercury retrograde bring the past even closer. The lower octave clings and controls. The higher octave tells the truth, lets go cleanly and rises with real power.

Not an ending to fear. Not a loss to resist. But the dark soil every new life grows from.

Find your 8th house. Honor what’s ending. And let yourself be reborn.
